Making Time for God When Your Calendar Is Full

Most Christian men I know genuinely want to walk closely with the Lord. The problem is rarely desire. It is the relentless pressure of responsibilities that makes consistent time with God feel nearly impossible.

We wake up early for work, carry the weight of provision, lead at home, and try to stay present with our families. By the time the day slows down, we are often too tired to open the Bible or pray with any real focus. The result is a slow drift that leaves us spiritually dry and emotionally reactive.

Jesus modeled a different rhythm. “In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there” (Mark 1:35, NASB). He did not wait for the perfect moment or an empty schedule. He made time with the Father a non-negotiable priority.

For busy men, this often requires honest evaluation rather than adding another task to an already full list. Where is time being lost to things that do not ultimately matter? What small adjustments—waking fifteen minutes earlier, using the first part of the commute for prayer, or keeping a Bible in your bag—could create space for God?

The goal is not a rigid routine that adds guilt when it is missed. It is a simple, sustainable pattern that keeps your soul tethered to Christ. Even five or ten focused minutes of Scripture and prayer can change the tone of an entire day when done consistently.

One practical step many men find helpful is choosing one anchor point each day. For some it is the first moments after waking. For others it is the lunch break or the drive home. The specific time matters less than the decision to protect it.

When we neglect time with God, we do not simply miss a spiritual activity. We slowly lose the very strength and clarity we need to lead well in every other area of life. The men who finish strong are rarely the ones with the least demands. They are the ones who have learned to bring their full lives to the Lord each day.
