The concept of divine protection is a recurring theme throughout the Bible and continues to resonate in modern times. In this post I want to highlight three distinct examples: one from the Old Testament, one from the New Testament, and the last one involving President Donald Trump.

Old Testament: Daniel in the Lion’s Den

One of the most compelling stories of divine protection in the Old Testament is the story of the Prophet Daniel in the lion’s den. Daniel was thrown into a den of lions as punishment for praying to God instead of the king. Despite the dire circumstances, Daniel remained unharmed throughout the night. The Bible recounts that God sent an angel to shut the mouths of the lions, ensuring Daniel’s safety. This miraculous event led to the king acknowledging the sovereignty of Daniel’s God.

New Testament: Peter’s Miraculous Escape from Prison

In the New Testament, the story of Peter’s miraculous escape from prison is a powerful testament to God’s protection. Peter, one of Jesus’ closest disciples, was imprisoned by King Herod, who intended to bring him to trial after Passover. However, on the night before his trial, an angel of the Lord appeared in Peter’s cell. The angel woke Peter, and the chains fell off his wrists. The angel then led Peter past the guards and out of the prison, all the while the guards remained unaware of what was happening. This miraculous escape not only saved Peter’s life but also strengthened the early Christian community’s faith in God’s protective power. Had this not happened, most certainly this would have been the of Paul’s life.

The Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump

Many believe that divine intervention played a role in protecting former President Donald Trump from an assassination attempt last week when on July 13, 2024, during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, a gunman fired a shot that narrowly missed Trump, grazing his ear instead of causing a fatal injury. Sadly, an innocent man, a husband and a father, was killed instead.

Many Christian leaders have attributed Mr. Trump’s survival to divine protection. He himself has said: “God alone saved me!”

And indeed, the bullet’s trajectory was altered, sparing Trump’s life and allowing him to continue his political journey.

The stories of Daniel, Peter, and Donald Trump illustrate the reality of God’s protective power. Whether in ancient times or the modern era, these testimonies serve as reminders of faith and the miraculous ways in which divine intervention can manifest. They inspire believers to trust in God’s protection, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
